Batten Down the Hatches...



Fig. to prepare for difficult times. (From a nautical expression meaning, literally, to seal the hatches against the arrival of a storm. The word order is fixed.) Here comes that contentious Mrs. Jones. Batten down the hatches! Batten down the hatches, Congress is in session again.


Groceries...... check!

Lawn mowed...sigh..... check!

we could have an earthquake 
(wait! we had one! though we didn't feel it in our home)

we could have a hurricane!
before Nature Boy gets the lawn mowed!!!

Now it seems that  Hurricane Irene  is coming up the east coast
and while we are inland and 3 1/2 hrs north of New York City,
heavy rains are possible.

so most importantly....

the calm before the storm...

Mr. U, Teenager with lots of stuff, Nature Boy and I
survived the microburst in Pittsburgh in July,1998,
when we were without power for 4 days
but
nowadays...
all I need is my art,
and perhaps, a good book
while we wait out the weather!!!
