Yesterday was no different!!!
Most weekdays start out about the same....
Most weekdays start out about the same....
I wake up Sugarbaby and Nature Boy at about 7:30-8:00 AM
(by that time, Teenager with Lots of Stuff is off to high school)
I encourage some breakfast
(I never seem to miss it anyway!)
and then our day might start with an art exercise together...
and then our day might start with an art exercise together...
or we might run out to Tae Kwon Do class/the library/french group
or even a field trip...
but some days evolve into something unexpected....
Like yesterday.....
Sugarbaby had to take care of our neighbor's dog, Maggie, while they are out-of-town for the day...
Play....
evolved into a project...
and now Maggie is the lucky owner of her own Super Dog costume!
Coincidentally,
around the same time,
Nature Boy was playing around with our pet dwarf hamster, Penny...
who, at times, has boundless energy,
and can spin away on her wheel for, what seems like, hours!
Before you know it...
Nature Boy has disassembled an old bicycle
and is hard at work creating some idea from his head
down in Mr. U's workshop.
I could be really aggravated that the work that was assigned to them for the day has not yet been completed...
but I step back for a minute to realize that
having the kids at home rather than in a conventional school setting
has afforded them lots of opportunities for learning on their own!!!
Nowhere in the halls of their former educational institutions
would they have had the chance to choose their own interests to teach themselves...
On this day,
they have enhanced their skills on which they are constantly building...
problem solving...
creativity...
(another project made by Nature Boy for his birds)
resourcefulness...
independence...
and pride!!!
and that makes their Mama proud too!
sounds like a perfect day!
ReplyDeleteIt all makes perfect sense to me.....thanks for sharing your kids' productive day.
ReplyDeleteAwesome day! I love the flexibility that homeschooling gives us too!
ReplyDeleteI was a public school teacher for many years and have seen good home school situations and not so good ones. Looks like you are giving your kids lots of opportunities to learn. By the way, one of my son's favorite comments is "Every day is a school day."
ReplyDeleteHey! We are homeschoolers as well! kewl. : )
